Joe Murphy is the team photographer for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA)

. He photographs all Memphis home games, off-court team functions and events, player, staff and dance team portraits and sponsorship photo shoots. Joe Murphy often travels to other NBA cities to shoot regular season games and NBA events including All-Star Weekend and the NBA Finals.His job also takes him to different parts of the world such as Brazil, Mexico and Europe covering the NBA's presence around the globe. His images for the NBA can be found in such magazines as Sports Illustrated and ESPN the Magazine as well as on posters, trading cards, and advertisements. Joe Murphy is also the official photographer for the FedexForum where he covers all concerts and events held at the venue. Joe Murphy graduated from Widener University (Chester, PA) in 1992 with a B.A. in Media Studies (concentration in public relations and advertising). Initially, Joe Murphy treated photography as a hobby, but after landing a job with NBA Entertainment, his hobby soon became a passion. In his five years with the NBA as the international editorial account representative, Joe Murphy's knowledge of photography grew. Some of Joe Murphy's experiences at the NBA included a tour of Paris with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, as well as other international photo shoots in Germany and Spain.From All-Star games to NBA Europe tours, Joe Murphy helped negotiate media arrangements for foreign and domestic magazines. Before moving to Atlanta from New York City, Joe Murphy traveled across three different continents and documented his travels through the eye of his camera. Joe Murphy hiked the picturesque mountains of Venezuela, biked the beaches of Maui and the Bahamas, and toured the beautiful countryside of Ireland. His travels fueled his enthusiasm for both photography and adventure, which continue today whether skiing in Montana or SCUBA diving in the Caribbean. Prior to becoming a freelance photographer, Joe Murphy spent almost two years as photo editor for WCW (World Championship Wrestling) Magazine.Joe Murphy was responsible for directing photo shoots, selecting all images for the magazine and often called on to take photographs.His directing skills took him places such as the El Yunque Rain Forest in Puerto Rico and Venice Beach, California. When the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver to Memphis Joe Murphy became the team photographer.He has continued to grow his clientele and expanded his resume to other events off the basketball court such as the NFL, PGA, NHL, and college sports. In addition to action photography, Joe Murphy also shoots features for local schools and institutions, banquets, parties, and special events such as the Staxtacular, Elliott Perry's SOCKS banquet, and John Daly's Lions Heart Invitational. Joe Murphy is equipped with both Canon and Nikon 35mm digital camera and lens systems, and Hasselblad Medium Format film capabilities. His studio is stocked with an extensive Dynalite lighting system and a mobile system for remote field assignments.Whether working on the sideline or sculpting light for that perfect portrait, his clients always get the same devotion and professionalism with a finished product of the highest standard.
